Feast Upon the Word: Vision

Posted by kurtelieson on May 12, 2014

This post attempts to address three topics: (I) a host of preliminary considerations, (II) a vision for how the Feast Upon the Word wiki can be implemented; and (III) stages of development, or benchmarks along the path to realizing that vision. Read the rest of this entry »

An Appeal for the Wiki

Posted by Jim F. on May 19, 2008

The blog portion of Feast Upon the Word is going nicely. We seem to have plenty of materials posted for various Sunday School and Priesthood/Relief Society lessons, and they keep coming (even if there are sometimes slow downs). Read the rest of this entry »

Wiki Site Down

Posted by Matthew on March 1, 2008

The wiki site is down right now and has been for a good share of today. Sorry for the inconvenience. Just want to let people know that I have contacted the person who hosts the site for us and hope that things will be working by Sunday morning. Feel free to post questions here. I’ll post status updates here.

Index of Blog Scripture Posts

Posted by Matthew on August 13, 2007

I’ve been messing around with the idea of creating an index of all the LDS writings on the internet related to scriptures organized by the scripture under discussion. And I put together a VERY rough draft to help me think through the right way to do this. Read the rest of this entry »

I did it! I finally took up Robert C’s challenge to contribute to the Feast Upon the Word wiki. Sadly, I’m not referring to the challenge he issued last week, but rather to one implied over four months ago, which I wholly accepted. So, how was my experience, and what would some one else expect if they were to ‘take a stab’ at it as well? Read the rest of this entry »

State of the Blog 6 Months Later

Posted by douglashunter on June 11, 2007

I seem to recall that back in December or January we decided as a group to do this blog as a 6 month trial run and then take stock, see how we have done, what we have done, and consider how well it has meshed with the wiki page. Read the rest of this entry »

Respecting our Elders: on being faithful to the Brethren… Freudian style…

Posted by joespencer on May 18, 2007

Our conversations on the blog, whenever they are the most prolific, are—let us be quite honest here—ultimately neurotic. Since I’m obviously thinking of Freud here, let me explain the point. The neurotic (and remember that Freud says that all “normal” people are neurotic to some degree or another) is defined by repression: there is some kind of trauma that the neurotic has never brought into language. In analysis, the neurotic essentially circles around and around this repressed trauma, always approaching it but unable to bring it directly into language so as to work through it. Analysis thus often goes on for several years while the analyst tries to help the analysand confront that traumatic experience linguistically (the “talking cure”). (Different branches of psychoanalysis, of course, have very different ways of helping the analysand confront the trauma, some far more effective than others obviously.)

So I’d like to diagnose our blog today: we are neurotic, suffering from the inability (or at least the near inability) to articulate a particular trauma, and it is something that makes it difficult for us, often enough, to do what we would like to do here. After nearly six months of watching us free-associate, I think I’m prepared to try to force us to articulate—to symbolize, to bring into language—this trauma, the “fundamental fantasy” that often keeps us from getting down to work. (I hope everyone recognizes that I write all of the above with a smile!) So, here we go. Read the rest of this entry »

Blog vs Wiki

Posted by Matthew on January 31, 2007

Following on the state of the blog post and some recent comments on the wiki, I think there is some work we need to do to figure out the relationship between the blog and the wiki. The conclusion of this work will be conventions about how we use each and how the two work together at Feast upon the Word. Read the rest of this entry »

State of the blog: one month makeover

Posted by Robert C. on January 27, 2007

As this blog approaches its one-month birthday, we made a few changes to the blog’s look (actually, I deserve pretty much all of the blame for this set of changes, though Matthew gets credit for setting everything up initially). If you have any suggestions for improvement on the blog’s look or, more importantly, the blog’s content, future directions, etc., this thread is a good opportunity to let us know. First, let me ramble a bit about the purpose and intent of the Feast blog and the Feast wiki, then I’ll give a few technical details about the current look of the blog and where I see things going in the future.
