RS/MP Lesson 4: “Strengthened by the Power of the Holy Ghost” (Lorenzo Snow Manual)

As I read through this lesson I found a strong emphasis on the need for personal revelation and friendship. We all go through trials in our lives and we are all searching for answers in our lives,”Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” (John 16:13). The Holy Ghost can help us make tough decisions and find answers to the difficult questions in our lives.  Lorenzo Snow relates, “There is a way by which persons can keep their consciences clear before God and man, and that is to preserve within them the Spirit of God, which is the spirit of revelation to every man and woman. It will reveal to them, even in the simplest of matters, what they shall do, by making suggestions to them” (italics added). I am struck by the word suggestions in this last sentence. Some people may ask, how will I know if it is right for me to be baptized? Let me provide a very short answer to that question, you know that you are ready to be baptized when you desire to be baptized. From Mosiah 18:8-10: Read the rest of this entry »

“The Purpose of Covenants and Ordinances” YW Lesson 17, Manual 1

Posted by Karen on May 4, 2012

From my perspective, it seemed like the purpose of this lesson was to teach YW about covenants and ordinances through what they have already experienced in baptism/confirmation/sacrament, and all this as a preparation for the temple. I think that’s a great idea and a great way to prepare them for the temple and the covenants there.

“Always Remember…” (YW Lesson 4, Manual 1 – Seeking the Companionship of the Holy Ghost)

Posted by Karen on January 19, 2012

Lately I’ve been thinking more and more about the sacrament prayer’s promise that as we “always remember Him” we can “always have His Spirit” with us. What is it about “remembering” that brings the Spirit? How do we remember? Do we confess His hand in all things? And does that mean that we see everything as His work? As grace? Is it that we always remember His love for us? The “greatness of God, … his goodness and long-suffering towards [us]“?

I did a search for “always remember” in the scriptures at lds.org. Besides references to the sacrament, I found references to several other passages that might open up other ways of thinking about remembering.
