I'm thrilled about the new material. I think the way the material was presented in conference I think didn't do it justice at all. :) The focus on scriptures and conference talks (especially current-up-to-date conference talks) alone is a powerful move. It is much more like the RS/Priesthood lesson manuals - giving straight quotation without set lesson plans. I like this because not only will that provide a better starting place for teachers, it will also communicate to the the youth that the place for doctrine is not a poem or story or even their teacher but the scriptures and conference talks themselves.

(My only concern is that teaching in the Lord's way probably ought to be looked at from D&C 42:12- 14 and D&C 50 as well, where we actually have revelations talking about how to teach. :) And there it's a question of the Spirit as the only real mark of real gospel teaching. But, that aside, I think the new material is probably as close as a program could get to setting up the right atmosphere and mindset for the Spirit to come. Further thoughts along those lines are in my post at beginningsnew: http://beginningsnew.blogspot.com/2012/10/welcome-to-new-curriculum.html.)

Thanks for the post, robf, and I look forward to seeing what others have to say too.

I haven't gone through this new material because the very title, "Teaching the Gospel in the Savior's Way" makes me cringe. You've got to have some major league cojones to make the claim that you teach the gospel in the Savior's way. I'm not sure I want to even touch this material, for fear of being struck by lightning by an indignant God.
