Feast wiki permissions change

Posted by Matthew on September 12, 2011

We’ve had some annoying spam on our wiki despite the measures already taken there to avoid it. To prevent the type of spam we have received recently I implemented the following tonight: only users with confirmed e-mail addresses can add new pages or upload files to the wiki. This includes user talk pages. I don’t like the idea that someone has to confirm their e-mail address just to tell us who they are. On the other hand confirming an e-mail address isn’t too hard. Feedback/alternative suggestions welcome.

Also, if anyone is willing, please take a minute and test the functionality and see if it is working as I outlined. Feel free to create a new user test account in the process. As always thanks for your help.

The End Of All Scripture Study

Posted by NathanG on September 12, 2011

The other night I struggled through a portion of Paul’s writings and was feeling a bit smug that I had successfully made sense of what he was trying to say.  Later, as I was mentally patting myself on my back, I thought, “Now how does this actually help me?” Read the rest of this entry »

RS/MP Lesson 42: “The Gathering of the House of Israel” (Gospel Principles Manual)

Posted by kirkcaudle on September 9, 2011

This lesson may contain information that is not widely known among many members of the church (especially those that are recent converts). In my experience as a teacher, I receive many questions every time that I teach on this subject. Therefore, if you would like a brief synopsis of what the Gathering of Israel entails it might be helpful to read the entries “Israel” and “Israel, Kingdom of” in your Bible dictionary. This could at least keep you from going into this lesson blind if you are less familiar with the subject matter. The complete lesson can be found here. Read the rest of this entry »

RS/MP Lesson 41: “The Postmortal Spirit World” (Gospel Principles Manual)

Posted by joespencer on September 6, 2011

Let me begin with two notes about how this lesson has changed in the preparation of the present edition. They’re important, I think, because they relate to a confession that I simply have to make before I venture to say anything about the spirit world. Read the rest of this entry »

NT Sunday School Lesson 37 (JF): Hebrews

Posted by Jim F. on September 3, 2011

The book of Hebrews is what scholars call a “homiletic midrash” on Psalms 110, meaning that it a sermon responding to Psalm 110. It might be useful to read that psalm before reading Hebrews and to keep it in mind as you read Hebrews. Read the rest of this entry »

Faith and Anxiety?

Posted by robf on September 2, 2011

I’m puzzled by a line in Jacob 1:5, where we are told that Nephi and Jacob had received revelations “concerning our people, what things should happen unto them” and that these revelations had come “because of faith and great anxiety.” What role did anxiety play in the receipt of this revelation in particular, and what is the spiritual role of anxiety in general?
