GD #33: the natural man / anachronistic(?) interpretation

Posted by Matthew on August 28, 2007

I am interested in the question of how to read phrases from the Book of Mormon which are the same as ones we find in the New Testament. As an added bonus, I am going to use an example to help me think through this a phrase in the reading for our upcoming Sunday School lesson. The phrase is “natural man” in 1 Cor 2:14.

Index of Blog Scripture Posts

Posted by Matthew on August 13, 2007

I’ve been messing around with the idea of creating an index of all the LDS writings on the internet related to scriptures organized by the scripture under discussion. And I put together a VERY rough draft to help me think through the right way to do this. Read the rest of this entry »

“Bitter” + “Cup”

Posted by BrianJ on August 5, 2007

A recent Sunday School lesson and Robert C’s insightful (albeit cryptic) comments had me thinking about the words “bitter cup.” (I’ll present this in a sort of roundabout way, so maybe you want to just skip to the “Synthesis” section.)

How is the word “cup” used in the scriptures? A search of the KJV for the word yielded 57 references, which I divided into eight categories—listed below along with one or two representative verses: Read the rest of this entry »

NT Lesson #27 - some charts with comments

Posted by cherylem on August 5, 2007

Here’s a couple of useful charts.

Variant gospel narratives of the visit of the women to the tomb

side by side comments and questions of four gospel ressurection narratives

I compiled these charts from Institute classes notes taught by Mack Stirling in Traverse City MI in 1995, where we had the great experience of studying the gospels separately and individually.

(My first posting of the side-by-side chart had many typos - sorry. These should be corrected now.)

I won’t be posting again until the end of August.

GD #27, He Is Not Here For He Is Risen

Posted by nhilton on August 3, 2007

This last lesson in the Gospels is an opportunity to evaluate the success of the authors’ efforts and to assess how they have impacted your testimony.   For those interested, here’s a link to my Lesson Notes on these selected scriptures: Luke 24 & John 20-21.
